Powder Mountain Cat-Boarding Recap

On March 19, 2012, two lucky winners, seven shops guys, and a couple of Salomon & Bonfire office nerds gathered at Powder Mountain, Utah for a cat-boarding trip with Salomon pros, Annie Boulanger and Bode Merrill. There was pow, there was sunshine, and there were beers… there even were  “todkas”- an unfortunate blend of tequila and vodka mixed by Salomon & Bonfire marketing manager Kevin Stevenson.

Zack Stalker and Michelle Fruh won a spot on the trip from the in-store “Blue Box” contests. Yep, all they did was put their name in a box; that seems like a good enough reason to stop in your local snowboard shop every now and then. Zach and Michelle, along with shop guys Josh Knipple, Dan Coski, Tyler Witcher, Brett Spurr, Mitchell Farrer, Shawn Cahill and Andy Bubnowics, rounded out our powder-devouring crew.

In an unusually dry winter for Utah, we lucked out on day one with pow lines throughout the afternoon on the endless terrain that is Pow Mow. At times we had to unstrap and scale across the sharp shale to get to the goods, but it was every bit worth it. Michelle went upside down, Josh got some air, and Tyler and Bub bashed endless stashes of deep snow. We all got some, except for Bode- that guys sucks at riding powder. Who knew? The evening winded down with a proper pizza party, and it’d be safe to say, that this crew took Salomon’s tag line to, “Stay Loose” very seriously.

On day two, the sun was shining and our crew went cat boarding off the trail map. It was amazing. We’ll try not to blow it out of the water for the locals and leave it at that. After countless cat laps, and even some cat-naps, we patroned Utah’s first bar for some local knowledge, burgers, and 3.2 beer. It was a good day.

Day three heated up (literally, it was hot) and the guys lapped the park- we even found some leftovers in the shaded trees. There was a pipe, plenty of jumps, log rides and boxes. Shawn, Dan, and Zach were destroying everything in sight, but the highlight of the day had to be when Brett attempted a spin-to-tripod onto a box. Ever tried that? Its slippery and awkward… we’re not going to make a joke here, it’s just too easy and it feels cheap.

All in all, the trip was a great time, even though we collective drank more todkas than any group of humans ever should. Salomon would like to thank everyone for coming, especially all the kittens. See you next year!

High Cascade teamed up with the head of our A.V. Club Tanner Pendelton to make a full-length video of all of last seasons HCSC footage to get you hyped for this summer. Check out team riders Bode Merrill, Jed Anderson, Chris Grenier, Desiree Melancon and Colton Morgan all have some hammers…
